Kenneth Wayne Johnson

Kenneth Wayne Johnson is a native of Rison, Arkansas. His aviation interests started as a student at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff through the late Colonel Oscar C. Mack, PMS-ROTC, in 1981. Over the last 40 years, he has been an active pilot and holds the following ratings: Commercial Pilot, Certificated Flight Instructor (Instrument), and a Multi-engine Rating. Ken is an aircraft owner and very fond of his Mooney aircraft. In 1993, he was appointed by Governor Jim Guy Tucker to the Arkansas Aeronautics Commission. For 12 years, he served on that Commission, including the position as Chairman. Ken’s service to the Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA) includes, Operations Officer, and has also been actively involved in Operation Skyhook over the years. He volunteered at the BPA’s Summer Flight Academy’s in Opa Locka, FL, Pine Buff, AR and Houston, TX.

Over the years, he has provided many local youth with their first airplane ride, with some advancing to professional pilots. Ken has been employed in public government for 38 years. He is married to Mary Serita Johnson and they have two daughters, Lauren, Jordan, and a grandson, Jaiden.
