Inspiring  Aviators

Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA, Inc.) is a national, nonprofit flying organization founded in 1997. We strive to introduce youth—especially those from underrepresented and underserved communities—to the boundless opportunities in the field of aviation. As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, BPA, Inc. is committed to creating access, providing training and education, and building pathways in the field of aviation.

Things We Do

  • Fly airplanes
  • Provide aviation safety education and training to current and prospective pilots.
  • Provide scholarships to support youth in their aviation training journey.
  • Steward resources and property necessary for the growth and sustainability of our mission.

Who We Are

BPA, Inc. is a diverse community of pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, and other aviation enthusiasts. Our membership reflects a global community of men, women, and youth from all nationalities and backgrounds—brought together by a passion for safe flight and a mission to uplift the aviation leaders of tomorrow. Whether you’re a seasoned pilot, an aspiring student, or simply someone who loves aviation, BPA, Inc. offers a welcoming space to contribute, learn, grow, and soar.

Our National Presence

With chapters located across the country, BPA, Inc. invites all interested individuals to reach out and connect with their local chapter. For those not near an established chapter, our Chapter at Large option provides a way to engage and participate from anywhere.

BPA, Inc. is registered in the State of Delaware and has been qualified as a nonprofit under IRS Section 509(a)(2) of 501(c)(3) since 2002. Chartered member chapters that do not have independent nonprofit status operate under the national tax-exempt number: Tax ID #86-0852905. Donations are warmly welcomed and help support our ongoing programs.

Our Signature Programs and Events

BPA, Inc. proudly hosts four major annual events:

  • Annual Board of Directors Meeting – Held each January over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

  • Memorial Day Fly-In “Operation Skyhook” – A signature gathering typically held in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

  • Summer Flight Academy – A premier training experience for youth ages 15–19, hosted each July at Houston Southwest Airport (KAXH), Houston, TX.

  • Annual General Membership Meeting – A national gathering held every August at various rotating locations.
