For many years, the BPA Summer Flight Academy (SFA) has excited young people about flying and their potential as participants in the field of aviation. Furthermore, the Summer Flight Academy has helped them to translate this excitement into academic studies, helping them form the foundation of a productive career in aviation.
The SFA instructors are all experienced flight instructors who volunteer their time and talents to share their combined experience of over 165 years in the field of aviation with the young people in the BPA Summer Flight Academy.
The BPA Summer Flight Academy is held at Houston Southwest Airport (KAXH) in Houston, Texas. Successful participants receive 10 hours of flight time and 40 hours of ground school during the two-week session. Students must have at least a B average and be between the ages of 15 - 19. Students who successfully complete the course and with the approval and supervision of their instructor, may be allowed to perform a solo flight of the aircraft.

2023 Summer Flight Academy Scholarships
The Red-Tailed Hawks Chapter of BPA is sponsoring the BPA Summer Flight Academy for 2023, and there are thirteen scholarships available for all currently chartered BPA Chapters. Only one application will be accepted from a Chapter.
Transportation to and from the Summer Flight Academy (up to $825.00) will be paid for by the Red-Tailed Hawks Chapter.
Receipts with a written explanation should be sent directly to the RTH Treasurer, Jordan Hayes (treasurer@redtailedhawksflyingclub.org).

Applications must be complete - including the "B" average transcript and the TSA Citizenship Requirements.
The slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and all applications must be received no later than May 15, 2023
2023 Summer Flight Academy Application
Application MUST be completed and submitted by the deadline, including proof of citizenship
Deposit required is $500, with complete payment due on or before June 1, 2023
There will be an additional $100 charge if the application is postmarked after May 15, 2023
